Founder's Log #1: Bootstrapping
Published on: | by Uditha Atukorala
I now have a co-founder! And we are bootstrapping!!!
In early September I was lucky enough to secure a significant services contract, which is helping us to keep the lights on while we explore our startup ideas.
We’ve moved on from trying to make my previously failed startup idea work. It’s not 10x better than what’s currently available and it’s something users would “need”, not something users would “want”.
We know we want to build something in the cybersecurity space, specifically targeting web app security. It’s an area both me and my co-founder Billy have experience in, and we’ve gone through the pain at multiple SaaS startups and enterprises in regulated industries.
Our hypothesis is that users would “want” a web app security solution that can adapt to changing attack patterns, something that can predict future threats and something that can actually identify data theft and stop before data is leaked.
What if we can build a WAF, that can proactively defend against threats in real-time without having to rely on pre-configured rules or known attack patterns? What if this WAF can learn and adapt to the environment it’s deployed to with zero configuration?
We are exploring the possibilities…
