Founder's Log #5: YC rejected us!
Published on: | by Uditha Atukorala
A few days before the YC X25 application deadline, we rushed to submit our application. Yesterday we got a rejection email, a generic one!
When me and Billy jumped on a video call to record our founder video for YC X25 application, we knew the odds are stacked against us. YC receives tens of thousands of applications each year but only picks a few hundred for each batch.
But since submitting the application, we made progress and continued to submit updates each week. I was feeling hopeful and convinced myself that we are increasing our odds, we should at least get an interview. Even earlier yesterday I was asking Billy of his availability just in case if we get a last minute interview request.
Late yesterday we received our rejection email. It’s a generic email but the key takeaway is our application is not good enough.
Thanks for applying to Y Combinator. We’re sorry to say that your startup was not selected for an interview. We carefully reviewed thousands of applications, and with so many strong submissions, we had to make difficult decisions. Unfortunately, this meant turning away many promising companies.
Unfortunately we can’t give you individual feedback about your application. This page explains why.
We hope you apply again in the future as you continue to make progress. In fact, we encourage it. Applying multiple times does not count against you and a surprisingly large number of companies are funded after applying more than once. Over 50% of the startups we accept are repeat applicants.
Best of luck,
—YC
